After eight years as a Director of OSPE, I know what members of our profession expect and want from OSPE and PEO. The engineering professional is not regarded as highly as other professions such as chartered accountants and medical doctors. Together we will improve our professional image and status.
I care deeply and am passionate about the engineering profession. My experience with many organizations and my trusted relationship with government have given me an excellent background to be your President-elect. Under my strong leadership, we will work for your priorities!
RELEVANCE AND VALUE
- Establish a system that recognizes an engineer’s right to “title” and right to “practice” to differentiate between practicing and non-practicing engineers
- Mandatory Professional Development which is the norm for other professions. A system with annual declaration without accreditation by PEO does not achieve this mandate
- Diligent enforcement of the Professional Engineers Act. Only licensed engineers do engineering
- Develop practice standards, practice inspections and defined specialty designations
- Recognize and embrace emerging disciplines
ISSUE
- Involve stakeholders, particularly government, to resolve the “industrial exception” impasse
- Enhance chapter and member participation in decision and regulatory roles
- Intensify PEO’s role to capture graduates by promoting membership relevance and value
- Increase PEO’s current inequitable representation on the Engineers Canada Board
- Implement, in a timely manner, professional mobility both nationally and internationally
RELATIONSHIPS
- Collaborate and improve relations with all engineering stakeholders
- Improve communications with members
- Encourage PEO members to join OSPE
With your vote of support I will restore the esteem of the profession, increase the relevance and value of the P.Eng. and preserve our mandate as a self-regulating profession.
